JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible to provide substantial QA, CQI, and Education to all CSP staff using structured techniques to compile, organize, analyze outcomes/ quality check data and use this information for improvement plans and formulating educational programs.This position is dedicated to ensuring quality trays and all CSP sterile goods, the avoidance of errors and completeness of required sterile trays and peel pouches utilizing evidence based practice standards.Ensures employees are thoroughly trained and documents competencies; with the guidelines set forth by various industry standards and regulations including, but not limited to, IAHCSMM, CBCSP, AORN, The Joint Commission, FDA, CDC, OSHA, and AAMI.Assist supervisors in scheduling to optimize productivity; works with supervisors to maintain employee files.Performs various other training duties related to instrument processing as necessary at alternate facility sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Conducts training and instruction during the initial orientation period. Monitors and tracks performance of newly hired employees. Fosters growth of individual staff members through mentoring.

Conducts initial assessments and annual employee competencies.

Responsible for seeking/sharing current knowledge related to professional field, procedures, and regulations. (Joins and attends local professional and to obtain updatesin accordance with The Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards).

Develops and maintains educational plan. Conducts CSP training based on best demonstrated practices.

Reviews and revises policies and procedures in collaboration with CS manager to ensure best practices are demonstrated.

Develops and maintains a schedule for continuing education and training.Establish educational opportunities for all staff through workshops, computer based programs, articles and videos.

Conducts in-service training and documents for each employee.

Conducts annual audits of staff training records to ensure compliance with governing guidelines.

Assist staff with education of new equipment/ instrumentation, products, procedures, and handling emergencies.

Assist with the Censitrac Instrument Tracking System to include: user information, security levels, sterilization documentation, etc.

Collects and maintains daily/monthly quality assurance indicators for necessary department reports manager must prepare and present to various committees.

Works in collaboration with Service Line Coordinators, Nurse Clinical Leaders, Sterile Processing Lead Tech, and all Perioperative staff. Also monitors quality, service and utilization standards.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The percentage of time spent performing secondary functions is 5%.The following duties are considered secondary to the essential duties listed above:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED required

Associates Degree in Surgical Technology or Certified Surgical Technologist required

5 years of job related experience required.

Sterile Processing Technician Certification CBSPD/CRCST required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Working knowledge/understanding of Adult Learning Theory

Ability to organize complex educational projects

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Good oral and written communications skills and computer skills

Ability to read, comprehend and follow simple verbal instructions

Ability to perform basic arithmetic

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences, Management or Education preferred
