OPERATING ROOM

The operating room suites consist of 34 operating rooms and 4 procedure rooms. Our registered nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the plan for the perioperative patient. The nurse also serves as a patient advocated during times of vulnerability by utilizing required critical thinking skills and a knowledge regarding the care of the patient in the operating room (OR). The position has an average response time to call which is 30 minutes. Our progressive and innovative surgical team fosters an environment that is challenging, dynamic and state-of-the-art. Our operating room suites consist of 34 operating rooms and four procedure rooms. You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of cases. The operating room completes over 20,000 procedures annually. Because we are part of an academic medical center, as well as a Level I Trauma Center, you'll be exposed to a wide variety of patients and experiences. Some of the OR services we provide on a daily basis include general, vascular, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic, orthopaedic, ENT, transplantation, gynecology, urology, plastic and reconstructive, and pediatric surgery.

CLINICAL HEAD NURSE - PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Make daily rounds for assigned patients. Assess patient and family needs. Collaborate with the medical staff concerning plan of care for patients. Provide direct patient treatment and care. Educate patient/family. Serve as a role model for nursing staff in providing patient care. Serve as a resource person to staff members. Assist in supervising the daily activities of the nursing staff. May participate in hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating staff. Make daily work assignments. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, and physician rounds, if possible. Meet regularly with supervisor concerning patient situations, to resolve clinical, and administrative problems. Assist the nursing staff in evaluating and implementing patient care needs. Manage daily operation of the unit in the absence of supervisor. Serve on assigned committees.

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting in supervising nursing staff; for providing leadership and orientation to nursing personnel; and for performing a variety of nursing duties in order to coordinate the delivery of care to patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a Master's Degree in Nursing required.

2 years of related work experience required.

Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently.

Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally.

Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.

Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.

Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
